AC Installation Cost in Kalyan and Thane: What the Quote Should Include

The unit price is the easy part. Bracket, copper, drain, electrical point and a test run are where quotes diverge — and where a cheap number becomes an expensive week.

Outdoor AC condenser unit mounted on a wall bracket above a window

Installation is the cheapest part of an air conditioner’s life and the most consequential. A unit fitted in ninety minutes without a vacuum pump will still be on your wall in year six — leaking slightly, cooling a little worse each summer, and outside warranty for the fault that caused it. This is what a fair installation quote in Kalyan and Thane looks like, item by item.

The published rate is only the labour line

Our standard installation is ₹1,499 for a split or a window unit. That covers the technician visit, mounting, a standard pipe run, a test run and the paperwork. It does not cover the materials that go on the wall, and it does not cover anything unusual about your site.

So when a customer says "I was quoted ₹900", the honest question is what was left out. In practice it is almost always one of: the bracket, the copper, the drain pipe, or the electrical point. Those are not optional — a split AC cannot run without them.

Materials, priced honestly

These are the lines that should appear separately on any quote you accept.

ItemTypical chargeWhen it applies
Copper pipe (per metre)₹550Beyond the standard run, or any replacement run
Wall bracket / stand₹700 – ₹1,500Every outdoor unit
Drain pipe and insulation₹300 – ₹600Every indoor unit
Electrical point and wiring₹800 – ₹1,800When no dedicated point exists
Core cutting through RCC wall₹500 – ₹1,200 per holeSolid concrete, not brick
Extra height or scaffoldQuoted on siteAbove the second floor with no ledge

A 1.5-ton split in a typical Kalyan 2BHK lands between ₹2,700 and ₹4,200 all-in with a three-metre run. If someone quotes ₹1,600 flat, something on this list is missing.

Why the pipe length matters more than people think

Every split AC is charged at the factory with enough refrigerant for a specified pipe run — usually three metres. Add two more metres and the system is undercharged for its new volume. The unit still runs. It just never quite reaches set temperature on a 38°C afternoon, and the compressor works longer to get close.

This is the single most common installation defect we find during a first service. The fix is not complicated: either keep runs short, or add refrigerant by weight for the extra length. What you cannot do is guess.

Long runs also need oil return in mind. Beyond about seven metres, the pipe should be routed with a slight fall toward the outdoor unit and trapped correctly, or compressor oil pools in the line and the compressor runs dry.

The five-minute test run nobody should skip

Before the technician leaves, ask for a test run and watch it. Five things should be true.

  • Cool air within three minutes at the louver, not "it will cool down later".
  • No bubbling or hissing at the flare joints — that is a leak in progress.
  • Condensate actually draining outside, not pooling in the indoor unit.
  • Outdoor fan running without vibration against the bracket.
  • Suction line cold and sweating, liquid line merely warm.

Ask them to show you the pressure reading too. A split on R32 should sit in the range printed on the unit’s rating label; a technician who cannot tell you that number has not checked it.

Vacuuming: the step that gets skipped

Every new installation must be evacuated with a vacuum pump before the refrigerant is released. This removes air and, more importantly, moisture from the lines. Moisture plus refrigerant plus compressor heat forms acid, which attacks the windings from the inside.

The failure is slow and unmistakable when it arrives: a compressor that dies at eighteen months, just outside the installation warranty, on a unit that was "working perfectly". If you take one thing from this guide, take this — ask to see the vacuum pump, and ask how long it ran. Ten minutes minimum for a short run.

What a written installation record should contain

Ask for a one-page record: unit model and serial, date, pipe length, refrigerant added (with quantity), vacuum time, pressure reading at commissioning, and the name of the technician. Keep it with the warranty card.

That sheet is what turns a warranty conversation from an argument into a formality. It also makes the second installation cheaper, because the next team knows exactly what the first one did.

Copper refrigerant lines and drain pipe routed neatly along a wall
A neat route is not cosmetic: pipe length, fall and insulation decide how the system performs for the next ten years.

Key takeaways

  • The published installation rate covers labour only — bracket, copper, drain and electrical are separate.
  • A 1.5-ton split in Kalyan usually lands between ₹2,700 and ₹4,200 all-in.
  • Pipe runs beyond three metres need added refrigerant, not a shrug.
  • Insist on a vacuum pump and watch the test run before paying.
  • Keep the commissioning sheet with the warranty card.

Frequently asked questions

Is AC installation free with a new unit?

Sometimes the retailer includes a basic installation, but it usually covers labour only. Bracket, copper, drain pipe and any electrical work are billed separately, and those are the lines that make up most of the real cost.

How long does a split AC installation take?

Two to three hours for a straightforward indoor and outdoor mounting with a short pipe run. Core cutting through RCC, high-rise outdoor access or a long concealed route can push it to five hours.

Should I pay extra for a longer copper pipe?

Yes, and it should be charged per metre actually used rather than as a flat bundle. Anything beyond three metres also needs refrigerant added by weight, which should appear as its own line.
