The Best Time of Year to Service an AC in Kalyan, Dombivli and Thane
A service done in March prevents the May breakdown. A service done in May competes with every other flat in the building for a technician who is already booked out.
In this region the AC year has two natural boundaries: the summer peak that runs from late March to June, and the monsoon that runs from June to September. Servicing before each of those is not a tradition, it is the point at which the work has the most effect and the least competition.
The two windows that matter
Late February to mid-March. The unit has been idle or light-use for weeks. Dust has settled on the coil without being baked on by a summer of running. A clean now means the machine starts the season at full airflow rather than losing 15% in the first month.
Early to mid-October. The monsoon has finished. Coils are damp, drain lines are full of debris, and the outdoor chassis has had four months of humid air. This visit is about drying, clearing and checking for corrosion before the unit sits idle.
April and May are the worst months to book, for two reasons that compound: demand is at its peak, and any fault found now cannot be fixed before the heat arrives.
Why May servicing costs more than it should
In the second week of May, every service company in the belt is fully booked. Prices do not usually rise, but three things get worse.
- Waiting time. A booking made in May is often a week out, which is a week of a dirty unit running at full load.
- Rushed work. A technician doing eleven visits in a day cleans what is visible. The blower wheel, which is where the airflow loss actually lives, gets less attention.
- Parts availability. Capacitors and fan motors go on backorder in the peak, so a small fault becomes a two-week outage.
Booking in March avoids all three. It is the single easiest scheduling decision in home maintenance.
What the pre-summer visit should cover
Filter wash, coil clean, blower clean, drain tray and line flush, and a performance check. Then three measurements: supply air temperature, current draw, and refrigerant pressure at the service port.
Ask for the numbers, not just "it is working fine". Current draw above the rated figure on the label and a supply air temperature within 8–12°C of room temperature are the two figures that tell you whether the machine is actually healthy. Written down, they also give you next year’s baseline.
What the post-monsoon visit should cover
The October visit is different in emphasis. The coil is usually clean-ish because the unit ran less, but the drain line has had a season of debris and the outdoor unit has corrosion risk.
Ask for the drain line to be flushed, the outdoor chassis and bracket inspected for rust, and the electrical terminals checked for damp-related corrosion. Loose or corroded terminals after a monsoon are a common cause of "it tripped the MCB" calls in November.
If you only do one service a year
Do it in late February or early March. A clean unit entering summer saves more money and prevents more breakdowns than an October clean of a unit that is about to sit idle for months.
The exception is a ground-floor or roadside flat, or a coastal-facing building. Those units collect enough through the monsoon that an October clean is not optional — it is what stops the coil from corroding through by the following year.
Booking notes for the Kalyan and Thane belt
The third week of February and the first week of October are the two quietest fortnights of the year for service companies here. Booking in those windows gets you a longer visit and a wider choice of slot.
For a commercial site, put both dates into the AMC contract as fixed visit months rather than "two visits per year". A contract without dates drifts to whenever the contractor is free, which is never before the peak.
Key takeaways
- Service in late February–March and again in early October.
- April and May are peak demand: longer waits, rushed visits, parts backorders.
- Ask for supply air temperature and current draw, written down.
- The October visit should focus on drain flush and corrosion checks.
- If you do one service a year, make it pre-summer.
Frequently asked questions
Should I service my AC before or after summer?
Before. A late February or March service means the unit starts the season clean, when it matters most. An October visit is a useful second clean, particularly for ground-floor or roadside flats.
Is it cheaper to service an AC in the off-season?
Rates are usually the same, but availability is far better and the technician has more time per visit. In practice that makes an off-season service better value.
How long does an AC service take?
Forty to sixty minutes for a jet service on a split, ninety minutes or more for a deep dismantle where the indoor unit comes off the wall.
